I struggle with standardized exams due to my anxiety, so I decided to hire a tutor to help me pass the ABIM Hospice & Palliative Medicine exam. Unfortunately, I failed the ABIM Cardiovascular Disease exam on my first try, which was a very disappointing experience. Going into the exam, I felt confident because I had dedicated a lot of time to studying and had completed many practice questions. I covered all the major topics, and my understanding of the material felt solid. However, once I sat for the actual exam, I quickly realized it was completely different from what I had prepared for. The practice questions I had worked on were fairly basic and fact-based, focusing mostly on memorization and recall. But the real exam was much more challenging, with complex case study questions that required deeper clinical reasoning and the application of knowledge to real-world scenarios. The case-based format was much more difficult than I anticipated and caught me off guard. Although my first attempt was a setback, it ultimately gave me a better understanding of how to approach the exam. With the guidance of my tutor and more focused preparation, I was able to pass the exam on my second attempt.
